This coffee boasts a striking cup profile, dominated by its delightful orange characteristics, reminiscent of orange blossom water and freshly squeezed orange juice. It exhibits a captivating complexity akin to orgeat, a familiar cocktail ingredient. The overall experience is elegant, clean, and impeccably balanced, featuring complementary notes of peach, marzipan, and dates.

Sourced from the Oma block, which is named in honor of a revered religious leader among the Meanit people, this lot is Gesha 1931. The coffee undergoes a unique process, starting with pulping and sealed plastic barrel fermentation, enriched with mossto, for 81 hours. Mossto is the fermentation juice made from compressing coffee cherries. Following this, the coffee is carefully dried for 30 days on raised beds, benefiting from a harmonious blend of sun and shade.

About The Farm
  • Gesha Village is a renowned coffee producer situated on a vast 471-hectare estate in the Bench Maji zone of Ethiopia, near the town of Gesha and the Gori Gesha forest, which is the birthplace of the prized Gesha coffee variety. This project is owned and operated by a team consisting of Adam Overton, Rachel Samuel, and Willem Boot. It was initiated in 2007 and has rapidly risen to become an esteemed producer in the specialty coffee industry. The estate boasts around 320 hectares of coffee planted with Gesha 1931, Gori Gesha, and Illubabor Forest varieties, distributed across eight distinct zones, each characterized by unique terroir.
  • These eight zones, often referred to as sub-farms, are named after nearby villages and significant locations. Among the Gesha Village offerings, you'll come across Bangi, Dimma, Gaylee, Oma, Narsha, Surma, Shewa-Jibabu, and Shaya.
  • The cultivation practices at Gesha Village are rooted in a mixed system of agroforestry, predominantly relying on the natural forests to provide shade for the coffee plants. This approach also encourages a diverse range of wildlife and flora to coexist harmoniously with the coffee plants, creating a symbiotic ecosystem of organisms. The soil at the estate is brown-red loamy, with much of it remaining in a pristine, virgin forest state.
